FORT COLLINS, COLO. - April 5, 2011 -- Encorp LLC today announced the launch of its Microgrid System Controller™, the industry's first microgrid system controller™ to connect onsite synchronous generators with the latest clean-and-green energy assets - such as photovoltaic systems, wind and micro turbines - and then monitor and control the resulting microgrid.

An Encorp Microgrid System Controller™ already has been successfully installed at a major international defense contractor site to ensure power reliability and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.

The Microgrid System Controller™ connects separate generator sets with such inverter-based renewable sources as photovoltaic (PV), fuel cells, advanced energy storage devices, and wind and micro turbines to create an onsite energy system that is highly efficient, robust and clean. The system controller can interconnect the combined generation source to the utility grid or operate in island mode.

The new Encorp offering is based on the company's well-regarded Gold Box™ and related software technology offerings. The Microgrid System Controller™ can be configured and modified for any combination of power generators in smaller applications, such as office buildings, laboratories and apartment buildings.

According to Clark, government incentives for Encorp microgrid installations that incorporate renewable assets are available to offset installation costs in several states.

The Microgrid System Controller™ can be customized for a variety of applications, including:
  • peak shaving/sharing;
  • demand response;
  • cogeneration;
  • full-load generator testing (using the grid); and
  • prime-power generation.
The heart of the control system is the industry-proven Encorp Generator Power Controller, or Gold Box™. With over 1,000 megawatts under the control of these devices around the world, end-users, specifiers and installers are assured that critical loads will be protected from unintended power loss due to control failure.
